I'm a freshman too. Just wear a cute shirt like from Hollister, American Eagle, Abrocrombie, somewhere like that. However those places can be expensive other great not as pricey stores can be Old Navy, Kohls, ......etc. but anyways a cute tailored shirt with a nice pair of jeans and some tennis shoes THAT MATCH also a nice pair of boots always look good there's also those potato shoes they match everything, and then you could get some really cute earring that match or a bracelet, necklace, you get the picture but then a good a cute t-shirt always goes good with jeans OR if your going for relaxed then sweat pants and a t-shirt are great and are super comfortable. You could also wear a skirt with leggings under it and that looks really cute with a nice shirt and flip flops.

Jeans skirts with leggings are a nice look matched with a cute tee and flip flops, vans, converse, or flats.
Skinny Jeans with a long shirt and a waist (cinched) belt paired with flats or boots.
Empire waist and baby doll tops are cute too or a flowy short dress paired with skinny jeans. Leg warmers and ribbon like head bands are cute too.
Just be open to new patterns and designs also mix and match. But, don't clash too many patterns, over match, or over accessorize. Wear what you like and flatters your body best.
