I have been told by the OB GYN that i have hysterosalpingography done to check for uterine abnormalities. This is the procedure where they insert a catheder into the uterine cavity through the cervix and inject dye to see if there are any abnormalities in the uterus and fallopian tubes. Was wanting to know from someone who has been through it if it is painful.

I have had it done twice.

The first time it was uncomfortable, because there was a blockage blown open, but it wasn't painful.

The second time, it was fine.

It is not painful for most women. I experienced some mild discomfort when I was full of the fluid. It is a quick test so don't worry. They suggested that I take some advil before the procedure. I left the test and went straight to work without any problem. Good luck!

I had the procedure done last year. Several people told me to expect some mild discomfort. I am the type of person that wants to be told straight. For me, it was NOT mild discomfort. I am sure my husband's hand is still sore. True, it only lasts for a short period of time, but it not something I would do again. On the other hand, it is not as painful as childbirth. :) Good luck!

i had one done after an ectopic pregnancy that left me with only 1 fallopian tube and i can tell you it isnt pleasant but i wouldnt say painful just uncomfortable and you just feel pressure and a little soreness after ward dont worry its a great exam to check your fallopian tubes and you can watch your uterus fill up with the dye and hopefully of your tubes are not obstructed you can see the dye flow right out into your cervical cavity it is really cool to see,,
dont worry it really doenst hurt alot

i be attentive to a pair people who conceived after having this executed approximately 2 months after inspite of the incontrovertible fact that it wasn't via HSG. I had it executed approximately 2 months in the past perhaps 3 and it does harm while they push the dye in and its a huge cramp. between the worst menstrual cramps ever yet then it grew to become into long previous. I had a small volume of cramping yet they ought to provide you the antibiotics. Its no longer only for allergies sufferers. so which you have been good to cancel on them. you ought to work out yet another Dr or only circulate lower back in and consult with the Dr head to head approximately it.

If you cut and paste that long worded procedure on Yahoo's search engine, and click on either the first or second result, you'll come to an extensive site. It explains it all. They said you'll experience mild discomfort but it doesn't last long.
