Ok first off, whoever is telling you good charlotte, greenday, and dashboard confessional is punk needs to get their ears adjusted as good charlotte and greenday are pop punk which will get you beat up by real punks for calling that punk, and dashboard confessional is more emo than punk. Check out these guys if you want some good modern punk. Nofx, Guttermouth, Propogandi, Me first and the gimmie gimmie's, and do not forget to listen to the spoken word of Henry Rollins to get you in the right frame of mind.
