Well let me just tell you that I used to be scared because I didn't know much about my body.
You can't hurt yourself with the tampon. You can't lose the tampon, there is no where for it to go. Its a little uncomfortable until you figure out exactly how to put it up there. Wait until you are flowing heavy and it will be really easy to get it up there.
You can use a pad, but if you are on your period and you want to go swimming, a pad is a bad idea for that because it will soak up and look like you are wearing a diaper. So you will eventually want to use the tampon!

Good luck!

You don't have to - no big deal. I was not comfortable with them for a long time myself. In the end I got tired of pads and long periods (a tampon shortens my period from 7 to 4 days) and I was more comfortable with that part of my body.

Honestly - it's no big deal. You do what you are comfortable with. If you really want to try them, try the teen brand - like the tampax pearl - you can't go wrong with them. You can only get it in so far and still be holding it, so there's no worry of hurting yourself. They take a bit of getting used to, but when it's in right you don't really feel it. Good luck hon!

Peace!

nothing to be scared about. Read the pamphlet that comes in the tampon box, that's what i did. If it hurts, take it out and try with a new one. remember to switch between tampons and pads, because using tampons too often can put you at risk of health problems.
but, honestly, nothing to fear... if they were that horrible or hard to use, they wouldn't be so popular.
good luck! let us know if you need more help!

I've been using tampoms since I was 12 years old, and I basically figured out how to use them myself. I don't mean to sound gross, but just put it where it fits. You'll know if you did it right or wrong.
But if you're not comfortable with tampons, don't use them! It's a personal choice.

Use a pad. I don;t like tampons either. I think they are uncomfortable.

I'm scared of those 2. Keep using pads.

There is nothing wrong in being scared for using something that you never have. They have pads that you can use. try them.

Use a pad. I don't quite understand what's so scary about them, though. Scared they might be uncomfortable? Then get a small size, and if it's uncomfortable pull it out and keep trying until it fits comfortably.
