What is vision therapy? If I see double and have a lazy eye will vision therapy benefit me? What about if my eyes do not work together? Will my insurance cover vision therapy?
Thanks to all who answer

depends on you and following the Drs orders...yes vision therapy works. ( but not in all cases) Sometimes surgery is needed.
You'd need to look at your own ins to know if it's covered or not.

Part of vision therapy, is covering the good eye, forcing the lazy eye to work harder, which in turn makes the eye stronger, (like lifting wieghts makes your muscles stronger), This form of eye therapy works very well on children, it will take longer for an adult. I'm not sure what they will do for double vision, but I would definatly give it a shot, it can't hurt. You will have to check with your health insurance a bout what they will cover, it seems that they cover less, everytime I need a doctor, but even so, I would try the therapy, your double vision must be driving you crazy, heres hoping you get good care, and your eyes get better

I've had that kind of eyes all my life. I've done the eye doctor thing (ophthalmologists, of course) had surgery twice, worn prisms, and done eye-doctor eye exercises. I don't know why none of it really worked. What did work was a kind of eye exercise packet that came from a website. The major claims the site made did not pan out (I still wear heavy glasses) but it really worked on my double vision and lazy eye. I have been prism-free for years now, when the doctors said that would never happen without yet another surgery. Oh. That's why I didn't return it: it worked on something but not what it'd promised. The site is www.visionfreedom.com. The packet used to cost $100.00 -- it may still be that price. I don't know. I sincerely doubt this is covered, but it's just a one-time cost. Save up and try it. Your eyes are worth it!

My daughter at age 6 months had "lazy eye." we spent weeks in patches on the good eye to develope use of the bad eye. She ended up having 3 surgeries before she was 2. She still has problems with lazy eye (age 22) and we have discussed this with MD's in our area and at the nearest medical college. They all tell us that surgery with an adjustable suture ( the suture is put in place while you're asleep and they adjust it until the eye is just right and then tie it off.) its a disovolable suture and will go away on it's own. The Dr's tell us that there is no such thing as therapy at this age. Surgery is coverd by insurance and a second opinion is also usually covered by insurance. The only type of Dr. reallly informed and capable of this is an OPTHLAMOGIST (MD) not an optremist who is probably the one trying "therapy".
