We just had about 70 baby african cichlids. The father is a beautiful blue and the mother is a greyish black color. The babies are all silver looking. Will they change color as they get older?

What type of african cichlids do you have?

If both parents are of the same species and dimorphic then the males will transform in color as they mature and resemble the father (females of dimorphic species retain juvenile color patterns).

If the parents are of different species, then the fry are hybrids and the development of their coloration is unpredictable.

Africans can change color in seconds, sometimes sub-dominant males must "hide" as females to avoid aggression. But, yes, many juvenile cichlids will look nothing like the parents until maturity.

Yes, most of them will. It sounds like you have Hap. Fryeri or something similar, and just like the parents the males will eventually turn blue and the females will remain greyish. But it is doubtful you will be able to keep them long enough to see them turn, given the space they need to grow. Also, sub-dominant males have the ability to go grey, like a female, to avoid the harassment of a dominant male.

The short answer is yes. Each baby will change color to match the adult of the same sex over time.
