I conceived a child four weeks after a tubal ligation in which the tubes were severed. I am 34 years old and mother of 3.

Tubal ligation is a form of birth control (obviously u know that) but the dr clamps off the tubes the ovaries still exsist & when the eggs release theyre microscopic so they can squeeze through anything. Unless you have a hysterectomy you still have some chance to get pregnant. When the dr clamps your tubes off they're not totally sealed off so the egg still has a little chance. EX: a clothespin clamped on a bag of chips = its not totally sealed off from air but mosly.seals it... Hopefully it wasnt a ectopic pregnancy (happens offen when someone gets pregnant after a tubal ligation.) At least your capable to have kids...Good luck!!

My guess is that the doctor just tied the tubes and did not cut and cauterize, which would have been the preferred method.
