Make-up. He says it's because of a skin condition. I think it's because he wants to look white.

He claims to have a desease that changes the pigments in his skin. His sister LaToya is supposed to have it as well. I am aware that it is possible to bleach your skin but I honestly don't believe it would be that effective. After all he was never the lighter of his sister's and brother's so I think there may be something to that skin disease story.
We all are quite aware that the majority of the Jackson siblings have had their facial features sergically altered except for Tito and the oldest sister Rebbie. That just proves the dysfunction in that family.

no amount of skin bleach can make the skin go from that black to that white!!
His skin condition is Vitiligo, the wavelength of direct sunlight dstroys the pigment, he has had the condition since he was born and it started with little white patches all over his body when he was very little, through time, the patches got bigger and he used dark make up so noone would notice, until the patches were so big, there was more white than black and he then used white make up,
this is the reason why it happened so suddenly, about the same time he released the number one single Black or white
and i agree with it, he is as equally tallented white as he was black.

Slow Jamz by Twista. My friend, a girl, is the same pigment that MJ was during the Dangerous era & she has that same long, curly black hair. She looks like a female version of MJ, during Dangerous. She was going to be him in a skit we were planning.
