I have a great tool for you through Realtor.com. You key in your present zip code (or any zip code you know that's like the area where you prefer to live) and then the city to which you're moving. It comes up with a list of matching zip codes in your new location and tells you how closely they match your original community. When you click on a link for one of the new zip codes, it then tells you the average home price in that area and gives you a map. There's also a link lets you see some of the homes that are for sale in the new location.
Hope you find this as useful as I do!

First off the first two answers referring to Palm Beach, that is NO WHERE near Tampa; 1 on complete opposite coasts of FL, 2 at least a 3.5 hour drive (moved from Tampa to WPB).
Anyway all the other answers are good, and here is another place to look at, Lutz. Lutz is considered North Tampa where it is a little more high end but not too over the top, also close enough to everything yet not too close. If you don't mind a little more of a commute to and from work (about 30 min) you could always try St. Petersburg, a little more quite and "homey" then Tampa, also right on some of the most gorgeous beaches.
Anyway good luck with finding something if you decide to come and with the move.
P.S. Stay away from the USF area, not too nice of an area.

I live in Tampa...
The areas to look into depends a bit on where in Tampa your husband will work and what you are looking for...
South Tampa (includes Hyde Park, Palma Ciea, and many others) has been and will be highly desireable but if he will work in Northern Tampa it may be a horrible cimmute for him.
Westchase was the place people were moving to in the late 90's and early 2000.... it is settling in a bit and finally they have gotten the roads to handle the traffic going in and out of the area, but again some commutes could be a problem.
Carrollwood (where I live) was the place to live in late 80's until the mid 90's and it is now a mature area to live in that is well supported in roads and conveniences in the area.
Both Carrollwood and South Tampa people tend to stay in their part of town because everything you need is pretty self contained in that area.
New Tampa through to Wesley Chapel is the rapid growth area right now but I wouldn't suggest it to anyone unless work is in this area.... traffic is horrendous and it is overly congested with construction and people in general.
Brandon is a suberb on the southeast side of (Tampa) and is a mature area... if work is in this area or at MacDill AFB it would be good to look into but it is a very mixed area... really nice subdevelopment next to a step above trailers. you can find exceptional areas though.
Across the bay in Clearwater and St Petersburg I am not as familiar with but there are great areas along the water that you can trade for longer commute time.
North of Tampa in Lutz/ Land O Lakes there is property with larger sizes and communities that are upscale and some that cater to alternative lifestyles (see nudist colonies) .... If working in Northern Tampa the commute wouldnt be bad from this area and you can get more house for the money the further North you go.
Hope this helps.... If you post where tthe Job you husband has gotten is located (area) I can help you more.

Just stay away from the slums and you will be OK. Seriously, contact the chamber of commerce of Tampa and they will provide you with a newcommers package. A second place you might try is through reality companies. If you are selling a place where you live now, your local realitor will be glad to get that info for you, they will get a referral fee if you end up buying from their suggested realtor.

Palm Beach is nowhere near Tampa as the first person suggested. Hyde Park is really nice, it's in Tampa.

I hear areas of Carrollwood or Davis Island are nice. Brandon (a suburb of Tampa) is crowded, but has everything. I don't know where you are moving from, but get ready for a sticker shock. Prices are through the roof.

I like Tarpon Springs but Treasure Island is on the gulf and I like staying on the gulf. Everyone has there favorite places. It depends on your taste.
