It is possible - BUT...

You will need to be conected to the internet with your PC turned on ALL THE TIME so people can connect to your website.

People connecting to your website will be included in your bandwidth, and slow you down/increase your data useage etc.

And if you use a dynamic IP address to access the net (most IPs use this) then it can be hard to make people find your site if your IP is changed.

Ok - so that's the down sides.

Go and grab a webserver - I use vertrigo (http://vertrigo.sourceforge.net/) because it's nice and easy.
Copy your HTML/PHP/image files into the htdocs it makes in programfiles/vertrigo/htdocs

Now you can use IE or Firefox and type 'localhost' and it will show you your website.

If you dont have firewall problems or anything, you can find out what you IP address is (whatismyip.com) and give it to a friend, and he will be able to look at your website too.

BUT if you want to keep a standard address to get to your website - I suggest looking at (http://www.no-ip.com/).

Or - for a much easier option - go and find a free web host on the net somewhere. A website like (http://www.free-webhosts.com/) will list a lot of free ones, and you can search for whatever things are most important to you (no ads, lots of space, php and mysql etc, etc, etc).

Hope that helps.

You can do a free website at www.geocities.com. However, if you could squak $11.95/month out of your budget you would be delighted with Yahoo Small Business Web Hosting. They give you software that is so easy to use, mostly drag and drop and the only thing you cannot do at that price is streaming video. Which you can always link to You Tube if you really want to show some video.

Yes its possible, but this is a poor idea because:
1) Your ISP probably has it written in your service agreement that you will not run web servers.

2) Your computer will be at risk to security threats that you constantly must stay on top of or risk losing your server and contents.

3) The website experience will suck for users.

You do not need money. Free hosting, free domain.
