How can I tell if my piercing is infected? I got it done on the 19th, so it's pretty new, but I'm not sure about it. It's red where the ring is then closer to the ring is kinda white. Sometimes it even looks a little flakey like the skin is peeling. It itches a lot and some people say that's good, others say it's bad. Any information would be great.

I don't touch it except for when I clean it. My piercer said to clean it with dial soap, which I've been doing, and I've been spraying it with salt water spray that my friend said worked for her.

I've had mine done for two years now. Sometimes it does itch, gets red. It exspecially did when I irst got ti done. It really itched then, that's just the skin healing. Don't owrry toomuch unless it really hurts. I mean, of course it's going to hurt right now, but it's even okay if some puss comes out ... I said some, not a lot. Just keep cleaning it on a regular basis, but don't let it over dry. A on't play with it too much cuz we all know our hands are full of bacteria. Wash your hands before you mess with the ring. Best of luck to you with yours, I know I love mine.

You have the good start on an infection. First off.....STOP TOUCHING IT. Wash the area 2 times a day with soap and water. If you want, use a salt water rinse a couple of times a day. Other than that DON'T TOUCH IT. Go back and have your piercer check it out. They may be able to treat it with tea tree oil.

Infected areas are usually red, swollen, painful and may be itchy. You should be cleaning it twice a day with the solution they gave you (or rubbing alcohol if you dont have that). The alcohol may dry your skin, which might be what is making it flaky or even itchy. Watch it carefully and if it doesnt improve, take it out. I didn't take mine out when it started to do that and I now have a bad scar. Trying to save an infected belly botton ring isnt worth the risk of having a bad scar. Take it out if you need to, you can always get it re-peirced once it heals.

I had mine done last summer. It got infected and i had to take it out. When i got it done, it was red for the first few weeks, but then it started to burn and hurt alot so eventually i took it out. Alot of my friends have had their's done. Theirs healed in a couple weeks. SO id say that your is normal, just clean 2 times a day with the cleaner you got from the piercer, or use salt water. Dont use peroxide or any alchohol to clean it because it just dries it out and it taked longer to heal. DOnt wear tight clothes because it needs to breath, or it will get infected. If your not sure if its healing properly, go back tothe place you got it don and they will help you out.
=P hope i helped

Get Bactine Spray at Walmart and spray it 4 o 5 times per day. It's much better than messing with that messy ointment. I did this and never developed an infection. Spray the Begebbers outta it! =]

If your itching it could mean either its healing or dry skin. If your flaky most likely dry skin. Which means you may be washing it a lil too much, soo try washing it only when your in the shower. If that doesn't work try a more gental antibacterial soap, And if that dont work try contact solution it worked really well when I had got mine infected.

Just keep putting Neosporin on it and it should be fine, unless puss starts coming out, then use a little peroxide or iodine(better) and follow it with neosporin.
