Okay lemme introduce myself first. I'm an 18-year-old college boy who just started the second semester. There is a girl whom I am honestly quite attracted to. I have never talked to her, but I will definitely start talking to her next class. As of now, she's single. That's at least what her facebook profile says. Valentine's Day is coming soon, and I am wondering if I should do something on that day. It looks like too big of a day to pass up. I know giving her a gift on that day will look extremely odd. I honestly don't know what to do. I'm trying to take it slow, but there is a conflicting school of thought that tells me to do something. Should I just do nothing? Or is it okay to write her a letter saying that I would like to get to know her better or something like that?

Why don't you give her a nice card and maybe a single rose. See how things go from there. That would be simple and practical and not overwhelming. Good Luck

Keep it very subtle, maybe a single rose. Anything beyond that may seem too forward. Just tell her that you wanted to make sure she did not get missed on such a day. Then leave it at that, let the gesture sink in before asking her for a date.

Write something on her facebook wall...that is a beginning icebreaker. then you definately can initiate speaking and then, in some weeks, valentine's day comes and doubtless you may bypass out on a date...
