First it was GLBT... Then LGBT so that the ladies were first... we're still so set on the men vs women competition... I say f*ck it and put trans people first! Who's with me??

Helify- Is asexual considered a sexual orientation, since it is actually a lack of sexual orientation?

17-4serendipity- I'm with you there- I also like when Q for queer and I for intersex are added in. I just didn't want to get into the whole alphabet soup thing and lose the point of the question.

mabster60- bisexuals are very much a part of our community, as are transgender people. Who are you to say that all transgender people want to be straight people??? Transgender people are gay, straight, bisexual, etc. just like biogender people!

That does make a LOT of sense, actually. Especially when you figure that there's still a helluvalot more transphobia than homophobia.

That said, I still like GLBT solely for the reason that I can pronounce it as "Gilbert". :)

Transsexual or transgendered should not be a part of it. One is a sexual orientation and one is gender identity. Not the same thing, and we are harming the understanding and progress of both by combining them. Can one be trans and gay? Yep. Can one be trans and straight? Yep.

Sexual orientation and gender identity are vastly different spheres and deserve to be treated as such. Sure, we face similar trials, and one would be hard-pressed to objectively isolate which is 'more harmed' by society in general. However, there are many groups that suffer similar harms, but we don't claim to be part of that same group. If we have a need to differentiate, which we quite clearly do, then that differientation should be along logical lines.

Are you a lesbian or trans??? Is that why you what G to be last. Gay men to be last, thats a typical lesbian. Always putting men down.

LOL J/K. I like the question. The only reason I can think of that it was originally GLBT was that seems like how it came around historically. First recognized and such, but I am no historian. I I mean my group at college was BGLFA (Bi,gay, lesb, and friends assoc) There wasn't even a T.

I guess it just depends on who gets to name it.

I know! It's all so freakin' random. Honestly, if we really wanted to honor everyone under the queer umbrella, it'd look more like this:

GLBTQQIABDDSMPMLAPT

(Gay, lesbian, bisexual, transsexual, queer, questioning, intersexed, asexual, sadistic, masochistic, bondage, domination, discipline, polyamorous, monogamous, leather, age play, pansexual, transgender, respectively). And even then I'm probably leaving something out!

I say we really spice things up and just say "shiny, happy, rainbow people"!

I don't really care one way or the other. I'm just glad we have a place at all. We're left out of so many other sites. This is a great place for us all to get together and have fun. Doesn't matter to me what they want to call it.

To the man who posted above me, since when are bisexuals 'not apart of yours?'

I'm pretty sure we deal with the same stuff from people every day? Discrimination, ect.?

It was and should always be Gay Lesbian Community. Bisexuals need to form their own group because they really aren't part of ours. Since transsexuals essentially want to be straight members of their opposite sex, they absolutely should not be aligned with the Gay/Lesbian community.
