download songs and rip them to cd? Why can't I just pay for each individual song that I download with no strings attached? (for example : pay $3 for three songs that I download and save on my computer? Where can I find a site like this? I don't want to get a bill every month--I HAVE ENOUGH BILLS. I just want to pick and choose to download what I want, when I want it, pay for it and that's all, with no obligation or subscription. If I just want one song- and never buy anything from that site again-that's what I should be able to do!! We do this every day when we shop at the supermarket, why is downloading music different?

You don't need a subscription to iTunes. Yes, you have to set up an iTunes account, but you only pay for songs when you download them. There is no monthly subscription fee or anything like that. I don't know about Emusic, I've never used it, but I use iTunes on a regular basis.

Very, very good question. I have been wondering where to find a site like that myself. Those places are very few and far-between, if there are even any more than the only one I'm pretty sure is like that: www.mp3search.ru ($.10/song is pretty good!) As for why 99.9% of music sites are subscription-based; it's probably because everyone's following Napster's lead after that whole copyright-infringement thing. I agree, it doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

As for me, after a while of seaerching around for places like that, I just was like "screw it" and got an eMusic.com account. It's very good for getting "underground"-type music, especially electronic and it's variants (anywhere from Techno to Industrial Metal, and EVERYTHING inbetween).

you don't, you just have to create an account with itunes first, i have itunes myself, you only pay for what you download unlike with a subscription, you could download nothing and still have to pay, its not like that with itunes.
