No, it's not ok, for you, your baby, or anyone else who has to share the air with you.

Okay, I am a total anti-smoker, but I would tell you from a physiological stand-point, you are probably better off having 3 a day than quitting completely DURING the pregnancy. The best thing to do would have been to quit BEFORE becoming pregnant, of course. At this point, however, quitting altogether would cause too much detoxing from your cells which would cause a lot of toxins to dump into your system all at once and could potentially harm the baby. Maybe you can do the three and aim to quit when he/she is born.
I have a son who was born with clubfoot (fairly common condition treated with casts/braces/surgery). Once when I was at the University of Iowa Hospital for treatments, I met a mom with her little daughter on the playground. The little girl was severely handicapped in nearly every way both mentally and physically. The mom said mournfully that she did drugs through her other 2 pregnancies and the boys came out "fine" but she quit doing drugs during the last pregnancy and "look what happened". She did not realize, I think, that the detoxing from the drugs was the problem. I also think she didn't realize that the other children may have many problems come up later in life such as learning disabilities and so forth.
My mom smoked while she was pregnant with my sister. My sister was small (also born a little early) and had a lot of "colic" for the first year of life, but otherwise is pretty healthy. We all make mistakes some times (I blame my son's problems on my drinking diet coke while pregnant), just try to eat as healthy as you can, take GOOD vitamins, drink lots of water and love your baby when he/she is born

when i became pregnant i stoped smoking (altho i only really smoked when stressed... but i was BEYOND stressed while pregnant). i wanted my child to be as healthy as possible, to me the risks were far too high.
Smoking not only leads to pre-term births, it contributes to genetic defects and breathing difficulties. A pregnant smoker is more likely to have their baby die before birth, than that of a non smoker.
Smoking early in pregnancy can lead to an ectopic pregnancy, where the embryo becomes implanted in the fallopian tube. Most ectopic pregnancies end in the death of the embryo. Ectopic pregnancy can pose severe health risks to the woman.
A women who smokes while pregnant is depriving her baby of necessary oxygen and nutrients. The placenta spreads further throughout the uterus becoming thinner, trying to seek out more surface area of the uterus to draw oxygen from, thus increasing the chances of placental abruption and placenta previa. Placental abruption occurs when the placenta separates itself from the wall of the uterus, denying the baby oxygen. Placenta previa arises when the placenta covers the cervix. Both of these high risk conditions are can be directly linked to smoking.
Researchers have discovered that smoking slows fetal growth. This risk doubles for babies of smoking mothers.
There is a higher incidence of SIDS related deaths in babies of mothers who smoke while pregnant (SIDS is sudden infant death syndrome). Babies who have been exposed to smoke, even second hand smoke, have a higher level of both genetic and learning defects.
Quitting smoking at any stage in a pregnancy is possibly thing a mother could do for the future health of both herself and her child to be.
hope this helps and doesn't scare ya too much.... just what i read and was like... um yah i should quit anyway because of the risks also after the baby is born. thoguht it was a damn good excuse to quit!!! so no its not good... even if you are cutting down.

You really need to cut it out altogether, but I understand that 3 can be a drastic reduction from a pack or two a day! Just do it one step at a time, and eventually get down to none. It is bad for your baby because it can cause low birth weight, breathing problems at birth, and athsma later in life (not to mention studies show babies who are born small due to their mother's smoking while they were pregnant remain small for their age for the rest of their lives). I quit completely, and you can do it too! Good luck!

I'm sure that will be fine. Good on you for cutting down, that really is an achievement.
Obviously we all know its better not to smoke but it is a really hard habit to break.
I personally smoked whilst pregnant with my kids and they were born perfect size, weight, length. Perfectly healthy and still are.
But get this the one time I did stop smoking while I was pregnant the baby died (4 & 1/2 months pregnant) go figure that one out!!!

It is best to stop smoking all together. I was a smoker before both of my kids. I quit it's not that hard. If you want what's best for your baby you should quit COMPLETELY. My health teacher gave us the analogy. Smoking while preg. is like blowing your smoke into a two liter bottle and putting the top on for 9 months.

I think you would be wise to cut down to nothing as soon as you can. 3 today, 2 tomorrow, 1 for a few days and then none.
really it's easy - once you start to think about that sweet little baby receiving all those chemicals without any way to say no, you'll be smoke free before you know it.
And o, if your husband/partner/boyfriend also smokes, ask him to quite with you - you and he will NEVER regret it.

You really should try to quit. I did while I was pregnant. It's just not about you anymore- you have somebody depending on you to take care of them! Smoking harms a baby and they may not develop properly. Thank God I qiut because I had to have my son 10 weeks early but thankfully he had no lasting problems. I would hate myself if he had had some problem that I could have prevented by not smoking. Just think about it and make the right choice!

Three cigs a day? I thought I cut down alot. I smoke under 1/2 a pack a day, and really thought that was good. I think 3 a day will be fine. Many women smoke while pregnet, and dont have any problrms, btu if I cut down to just 3 I would just quit all together.

I smoked BEFORE I found out that I was pregnant and quit immediately when I got a positive test result. You really should put your baby first and even though it is hard to stop it would be the best for both of you. Your baby is more important than any cigarette ever will be!

I wouldn't but my mom smoked with me and I know a lot of parents that smoked with babies before they new it was dangrous and they are all fine. But I would try to quit becuase there are some risks like low birth weight and smaller features and you want to give your baby the best chance in life
