Hemingway's writings always involve mythopoeic symbolism. That is to say that nature is always extremely important. In "The Sun Also Rises" it is the act of returning to nature that heals Jake. You might take a look at Hemingway's personal life and see if that same experience with nature healed anything for him. Why was nature so important to him? etc. The link below is for a really great article that I found when I was writing my research paper over "The Sun Also Rises." Maybe you will find something in there to help.

Lots of stuff. Was he really gay? And did that figure in his last book ( which I thought was awful)? Was that why he was so "macho" about bulls and marlins? Why did he get married so many times? Death was one of his biggest themes along with war. I did a paper once on how he treated women in his writing, because he wasn't at all sympathetic to women being anything but stoic and faithful. Write about "Old Man & the Sea" which is about humans versus nature, and love and there are good movies of that story.

You can tie this aspect to other great artists and writers who had an affair with the Green Faerie
