There aren't 51 states. Some people like to say that Washington, District of Columbia is a state, but it isn't. In the 1990's we were considering making Puerto Rico the fifty-first state, but we ultimately decided not to.

There are NOT 51 states. There are 50 states and the District of Columbia.

"pencilrado"
"illaohi"
"oklagon"

and "tennico"
don't get to confused with these and the "real 50 states"

There are 49 States where people live seeing as Canada is taking Florida over, and one man running the whole show who dragged his country into quite a state of affairs.

There 50 states, however it can be confusing because of territories and districts that belong to the US. In many instances citizens of the District of Columbia (Washington DC) are treated as if they belong to a state. For instance, they are allowed a contestant in the Miss USA Pageant, which is on tv as I type. Perhaps this is why you are asking?

there are only fifty states, the us has other territories, like guam and puerto rico, and even washington dc is not a state, but there are only fifty states
