20th President James Abram Garfield, served in 1881 for less than a year. Garfield was shot by Charles Guiteau on July 2, 1881, a few months after becoming president. His was an agonizing death, as one of the bullets that struck him lodged in his back and could not be found. He became increasing ill with infection and died on Sept. 19, 1881 in Elberon, New Jersey.
He was succeeded by Chester A. Arthur (1881-1885-presidency)

Liberia - Samuel K. Doe (President Ronald Reagan made his historic blunder when he cordially greeted ‘Chairman Moe’ when he warmly shook his hand.)
Valéry Marie René Giscard d'Estaing (born 2 February 1926 in Koblenz, Germany) is a French center-right politician who was 20th President of the French Republic from 1974 until 1981. He is currently the only living former French president.
Mexico's 20th President is Lázaro Cardenas.
Lou Anna Simon is Michigan State University's 20th president.
The 20th US President is usually identified as James A. Garfield, who was tragically assassinated. (Unlike in Liberia, his assassin did not become the next president.) Unless you count David Rice Atchison, that is. The term of President James K Polk ended on Sunday March 4 1849, and President-Elect Zachary Taylor refused to take the oath of office on a Sunday, so Senator Atchison is said to have been President of The United States for one day. In reality President Polk's term was extended for one day. If you accept this reasoning, Rutherford B. Hayes was the 20th US President.
