Disadvantages: It is more expensive; you are somewhat isolated from your peers; if you have disagreements with the landlord then you won't have the power of numbers, it's just you vs. them
Advantages: It is quieter, and perhaps easier to study; you have your own kitchen and bathroom that you don't have to share with other people whose cleanliness standards may be subpar; you can have people over, have parties, watch movies, etc. and no roomates will complain

If you mean go without a roomate, the biggest advantage is privacy. And you don't have to stress over having a messy roommate, or you don't have to clean up after yourself if you're the messy one. Biggest disadvantage is you have to pay 100% of the rent.

You have to have approved income. Some rooms for rent are high. Its good to be on your own. Prepares you for interdependency. Disadvantage: Noisy neighbors& pest problems (roaches) not all rooms have pest. Have to keep up with your rent. If you don't you get notices on your door from the landlord.
