My math teacher only likes kids on his basketball team, who are black (like him), or get straight A's. The other quarter of the class are left in the dust while the others get royal treatment. It makes me feel dumb.

Am I imagining this?

Have you tried bringing this to his attention? A lot of us (Teachers) do have favorites, it isn't until someone brings it up that we place it in check. I get accused of showing favorites all of the time. Once someone pointed it out I had to check myself.

Teachers Black and White gravitate towards what is most familiar to them.

Speak to him about it in a mature manner and he will change his behaviors.

Question: How are you doing in Math? Perhaps if your grades were A's, you'd get the apple.

You may be imagining this but I noticed the same thing when I was in school. I was well liked by my math teacher but was not expected to do well and so was the last to receive help. I am now a math teacher myself and do what I can not to repeat the behavior. Being human, I know I do not give equal treatment but when I do not, I appreciate being called on it (nicely of course).

I hope this helps

I don't know about the race thing, but I'd guess if he has basketball players in a math class he's giving them plenty of focus so they'll pay attention!

Sit in the front row, make eye contact and nod your head when you understand. Refuse to be left in the dust!

Probably not I had a teacher that did that all last year. it was really annoying. Try to tell your Principal but try and get some other kids to go with you because if you go alone he or she might think your a whiner. And don't call yourself dumb.mk. I hope this helps.

Nope- just tell him you need help and you don't feel you are getting it. Suggest that you should have a parent teacher conference so your parents can understand your frustration and not blame you? That might get attention.
