What would I have to work in to become a video game producer/designer?

I almost went this route. You're gonna have to constantly study the market trends for which software producers are using.

You should be looking into graphic arts classes and programming. A good portfolio and ability to draw by hand are a real plus.

I recommend checking craigslist's SF Bay area listings in graphics, and see what people are looking for when hiring video game engineers. You might also check on video game producers websites like lucasarts, and EA.
