Almost no one trusts our elected officials because we think they are in somebodies pocket. Take that completely out of the equation and publicly fund the elections and provide exactly the same resources to each side.

Also if a candidate wants to say something negative about another require proof first. Hearsay won't cut it.

A resounding Yes !!!!

There are those of us who have been saying this for years. Public funded elections which DO NOT allow candidates to bring their own money in would be the only way to assure a fair race. That and

Verifiable ballots
Return of the Fairness Doctrine
Nothing negative allowed unless it is from voting record or public office performance record. In other words NO swift boats and illegitimate black children stories allowed.

The only thing we need are open (to all candidates) and honest debates (no pre-selected questions or restrictions on what can or can't be asked.) Oh, we also need the American people to wake up and actually be engaged beyond being brainwashed by the Clinton News Network soundbite they hear.

we had campaign finance reform (mccain-feingold) , all it did was make it harder for 3rd party candidates to get money and elected...the problem with election reform is the people that need to change the system are the same people who are already benefiting..they have no reason to change an extremely lucrative way of life for themselves...

you'll need to do it in steps.... the last one would be simple enough to pass, but public finance with no priavate option is not going to be easy.
