First, if you don't know which muscle this is, please see here....

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pectineus_muscle

It does not hurt when I walk a smaller stride than usual, but to try and sit down and "rotate" my leg/thigh is very painful. I think I may have torn it, but ain't shelling out $1000 for an MRI just for them to tell me to put some heat or something on it.

If you've had muscle injuries, what have you done for them?

Hot baths relieve discomfort.

If you just tore it, ice it down right away. That will help decrease the inflammation and swelling. Put ice on it for about 15-20 minutes each hour for a couple of hours. Do this for the first day. After that, you can use heat to help relax the muscles. They will likely be in spasm from the injury. You can massage the muscles as well to help loosen them and improve circulation.

I don't blame you about the doctor bill--hospital bills are just crazy these days.
I would try wet heat first. Whirlpool, tub, shower, whatever is convenient. Follow up with ice or an icy patch that you can buy cheaply at any drug store.
If you feel okay to stretch, try some hamstring stretches. Actually, it may be your hamstring and not your pectineus after all!
Just remember to listen to your body and don't do anything to inflict even more pain then you're already in.
And take some ibuprophen.
Good luck to you.

Ice first 48 hrs, heat after that. And elevate.
Ice will reduce the swelling, heat will relax the muscle.
Doesn't matter what muscle.

Use the formula RICE.
R=rest
I=ice
C=compression (like an ace wrap) only when you are going to be on it
E=elevate

Epsom salt in the bath water to relieve some of the stress in the leg, warm water,not hot, then get yourself some muscle relaxers or just some aspirin x-tra straight, heat packs, then stay off the leg as much as you can and wrap it if you have to use your leg for any long period of time!

i tore a ligament in my ankle..
and my doctor is really good and he said that icing only helps a few hours after the injury..and after that to use heat.
surgery is different..i used ice for about a week

and you should get the MRI..because you don't know what it is and by not getting it treated it will make it worse and be muchhh more expensive and the injury will follow you through you whole life and more expenses without getting it fixed correctly. your choice though
