I'm writing a book, so I need names that are fairly fantasy-ish, but still believable.

My favorite fantasy name is Serafina Pekkala, a witch in Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials books. Apparently, Pullman got it out of a Swedish telephone book.

Fantasy names usually have a connotation to them, but aren't a name we use in our world, just related to a word in English.

For example, Malfoy's goons in Harry Potter are called Crabbe and Goyle. Crabbe is like crabby/crab and goyle is part of gargoyle. Just based on their names, we know they aren't the good guys. Latin word roots can come in handy, too. To use another Harry Potter example, Albus Dumbledore. Albus is from the same root as albino, for white, and dumbledore is a type of hat, so the good wizard is literally White Hat -- as in the good guys always wear them.

Good luck. Post some of your ideas and maybe people can improve on them if you can't think of a perfect one on your own.

Keir'en Willowbreath?

You can try looking in http://www.babynamesworld.com/pages_browse_by_origin.html.
Just search for a foreign-sounding name and alter some of the letters/syllables. Then, add a last name that includes a reference to an animal/plant.

Good luck with finding a name and with your book!

There are a bunch of random name generators on that site. Not all of them work for all "fantasy" names, so play around with a few until you find one that works for your story. Good luck!
