If I am talking to someone on AIM and I send them something at 8:40 and I look at my buddy list at...?

8:53 and it says they have been idle for 22 minutes would they have been there to see my question? I mean could there computer screen still have been on to show them what I sent?

No, but if you sent the message at 8:30 they would have been.
