Socialism
1. Democrats always raise taxes when they have control. We had almost 80% tax brackets at the top under Carter. They stand for redistribution of income, a facet of socialism. All I hear out of Democrats is tax the rich. Since government cannot create wealth, they must be redistributing it.
2. Here is a line from a socialist website:
Socialism requires a revolution with three main stages: firstly the emergence of a workers' movement committed to socialist revolution, secondly the achievement of political power and the expropriation of the capitalists and thirdly a period during which workers learn how to be owners and rulers and cast off the psychological and ideological dross of the past.
Note the part of expropriation of the capitalists. Expropriation means is the act of removing control from the owner of an item of property. The term is used to both refer to acts by a government or by any group of people. This is exactly what the Kilo decision has done with eminent domain. This is also how the tax system works: take from the haves and give it to the have nots.
Socialism does not take into account how free markets work. There will be haves and have nots. Those who take initiative will achieve many things. Those who sit around and wait until things are given to them destroy what they are given. Earning it is the only way people respect it.

Here are two examples.
Both of these are quotes from you-
1. "I would like to see significantly higher taxes on high earners, and almost confiscatory rates on the super-rich."
2. "I believe that charities that work to help social or medical problems should not have to rely on handouts, which can go away at any time. The govt should fund research into diseases, and solve other social problems, such as the homeless.
I donate a ton of money to left wing political organizations that work to improve conditions through laws."
When you advocate taxation to the point that it constitutes redistribution that is a form of socialism.
When you believe that the government can do it better than private industry that is socialism in its purest form.
Are you sure you understand what those two words mean?

even better question for you...
how come all of them who claim giving money to people is Communism/socialism, didn't mention anything about corporate welfare, or foreign government welfare being socialism??
if"Any government program that distributes tax dollars to other individuals is a socialist program." as stated above, George W Bush must be the biggest socialist in America, since he wants to give our tax dollars, to foreign governments, to be "just governments" as part of his new program in the State Department!
and i guess "READ MY LIPS..NO NEW TAXES" was a quote made infamous by a democrat huh?? na, that was none other than daddy Bush!
I would really like to see tim1776 to show some references were any one political figure, currently in office, has proposed nationalization, of any industry, in America. Strict regulation is a far stretch from nationalization!

I'm not a conservative, but here goes...
-Advocating nationalization of the health care industry. Since health care services are a fairly large part of the American economy, that seems like a pretty blatant case of advocating for socialism.
-Advocating nationalization/public provision of day care.
-Promoting heavily "progressive" taxation.
-Support for giving the all levels of government nearly limitless discretion in regulating "public" businesses, even when said businesses are overwhelmingly privately owned and operated.
All of these fit the definitions of socialism or communism. Before you protest, remember that Marxism is not the ONLY form of socialism.
I agree, not every government program I dislike is automatically socialist. But when the program calls for the state having a dominant role in the production or DISTRIBUTION of goods and services, it is clearly socialist.

Actually, the Number 1 liberal of all time inspired a socialist movement that took 200 years to end. I am of course referring to the early christian settlements in the first and second centuries. They were considered evil at the time too. but that's okay, we got rid of that kind of thing- who accually reads the bible nowadays? And we destroyed any credibility of the really liberal gospels leaving only 4 revolutionary texts that aren't as revolutionary as any of the others.

The list is almost endless. Any government program that distributes tax dollars to other individuals is a socialist program. Examples would be social security, medicare, welfare etc. Those are all socialist programs.

I don't see any correlation between the two. I don't think the Con's can support that statement myself, since it's not true. Republicans and Democrats alike live under the same Constitution and Bill of Rights.
