I mean, the US has no plans to give it up so why not be honest and give them full benefits of being a state?

Yes, I know I can't spell it, lol. Thanks for corrections.

I'd assume that if it were a state, it would keep its flag.

Point about taxes is interesting. Bizarre you either pay more taxes or you are deprived of the vote.

Do most people from there feel like "Americans"? I'm mean I've heard of the people who don't of course.

Now how can I choose a best answer? At least two gr8 candidates

I think that you should check your facts before you start talking. Puerto Rico has a better deal then we do. They have all the benefits of a state and more-so. They don't pay taxes! They have all the same rights and freedoms and get to keep their Flag. I would rather live in a common wealth and keep most of MY money, rather than be called a "state" and have nothing change except give MORE money to the corrupt government and give up my flag and history. Plus the US would incurr more debt i'm Sure by the "red tape" needed to put something like that into place. Don't give the government more ideas!

There are many reasons to this question. The U.S. government stated that Puerto Rico is a U.S. territory, like a few years ago Hong Kong was territory to Britain. People don't want it as a state because they like the flag the way it is, they have nothing to "offer", the U.S. already has enough citizens, and a new state would bring more debt. These are only a few reasons, though.

PUERTO RICO turned down the offer to be a state. They also wanted the US Navy out and got their wish. Cut their own throats. So sad, too bad.

Technically, Puerto Rico is another sovereign state but it do not want to exist as an independent state but is contented to be under the US to derive benefits therefrom.

i agree.. Puerto Rico and other territories do need the full benefit of being a state, b/c hundreds of citizins have enlisted in the military and fought our wars, yet they aren't given the right to vote and decide who their commander and chief is? crazy to me.
