Damage is always based upon its power, unless otherwise specified.

Actually the blocker does not need to survive the encounter to deal damage to the attacker unless the attacker has a first strike advantage.

So both attacker and blocker can deal a lethal amount of damage to each other and be placed in the graveyard.

Unless the card says otherwise, damage is always done by power. If a special effect has modified the power over the course of the combat, use the modified power. Usually, it's just what's on the card.

Damage is done "simultaneously", so mutual destruction is not only possible, but common.

If you attack a player and that player blocks no damage is dealt unless your creature has trample then what ever remains from the power is dealt to the player.

damage is always dealt from power to toughness unless some affect from another card changes it to work a different way.
