Walter. Chile did not make any contract with any foreign nation, to obtain the antagonism that we have with the Argentineans. They worked their own destiny when having within their hard disk expansionism and the oportunismo, not only with England but with all the bordering countries that it has, this is with Brazil, Chile, Uruguay, Paraguay, Bolivia. So this antogonismo is the product of the feeling that Argentinean by her own acts generates, said and provocations that she has had with different countries from the South of America. For the same reason that is not wanted for anything. For the other people who spoke of lettuces and ewes, the truth is that nothing was understood to them, surely because I formulated very badly the question, I feel it. greetings from Chile

there are two sides to the coin, as the Falkland islands are so far away from the UK what claim do we really have? having said that, the inhabitants are mainly of British descent so we had an obligation to protect them, although i think the government were thinking along more selfish lines. i hope that the Chilean government helped the UK for non-selfish reasons as im sure that the Chilean people did!

Chile must not be like Israel as against Argentina. Nations must cooperate instead of fighting each other. Let there be peace and not war.

I think its worth remembering that Pinochet and the Argentine generals were still bitter at each other after the dispute over the southern border at Patagonia. This antagonism made them less likely to be friends when one was engaged in a conflict with an outside state.
