I have traveled all my life, I happen to be 62. I have been to so many countries that I could not even begin to count, and honestly I cannot tell you a truly a favorite. I have liked and enjoyed almost all. If you are looking for beach and water it really falls into three areas. Florida Keys, Caribbean, and Hawaii. Each location has something the others don't. Pacific water is a little warmer than the Atlantic, the Keys are a little cleaner than tha Caribbean. The Caribbean had more place to choose from.
If you like history Europe is loaded with it. There are so many to choose from there is no way to pick the best.

What I can say though is to go to first the library to get some basic information for travel. Sure you can use the Internet too, just remember that every sight is really a paid commercial. You can get basic from the Internet but go to a book store and look at the travel books of where you have interest. Buy the book that is most appealing to you. Mark the areas that are MUST SEE, and areas that are would like to see.
There is no place that will appeal to everyone. Good luck on your hunting and on your trip.

Last year we taught my nieces to scuba dive, and took them and their parents (who also learned to dive along with them) to Bonaire, one of the three "ABC" islands of the Netherlands Antilles. We spent an idyllic week diving, and watching our nieces discover all of the exotic fish in the ocean was a real treat!
