I think it means robot. Like when you are in a chat room and you are talking and some one pops in the room with and advertisement and then pops out. Sometimes people try to talk to them and others say don't bother, its a bot. I think it means robot or computer.

it stands for ROBOT. BOTs are applications used mostly to represent the human users.
