As an American, it bothers me that our government (and I put the blame on BOTH major political parties) is making America look bad by invading other countries, condoning torture, etc. I took a class in college on US foreign policy from 1900 onward and my professor did a VERY good job of remaining neutral presenting the facts. I was absolutely appalled by how the US invaded other countries, sent CIA agents to assassinate people only because they had socialist leanings, etc. Actually, it appears the only justified war the US has engaged in since WW2 is Afghanistan, and that's only because they harbored an organization that actually attacked us. Anyway, enough of that tirade...

I am daily relieved that many people in the rest of the world seem to direct their anger only at the US government, not the people of the US. It gives me a sense of hope that things can get better still. So, how can the US heal relations with the rest of the world?

Great question!

Basically America is a total paradox ever exist to every human life. America is a volatile place right now... Sorry to say.
From there really comes all the greatness paradise of life, but also derives all the dreadful lifestyle...

Since America ages only more less 600 years old, so America is considered as one of the youngest countries in the world.
Yes America helped and helps for many positive humanitarian things in this world. America do have such a big contribution to this world, but at the same time America also really display and portray how shameful, horrendous, shallow and wicked they are towards many things in this life. America creates order BUT also chaos at the same time...
They make not only fantastic war movies but also make the REAL wars in reality.... and they do enjoy wars like playing playstation. They are full of hope and greatness but they are also full of hatred, anger, wickednesses and hang ups. American lives their life in such a spectacular way compare to other countries on this planet. But at the same time American do live in such a tiny bubble and fuzzy dreams ever. America is smarter than smart, but they also stupider than stupid. They are very open-minded but also such a narrow-minded at once.
America is the chaos and the order at the same time-. America not only makes great creations to the world but also painful and traumatic destructions emotionally or physically..... for sure.

Well, being objective the U.S. is not invading all the time.

The invasions they've done are not unlike those of other super powers and semi-super powers.

Objectively speaking, the US has been like that since they stopped being isolationist.

In short, for the most part yes.

Sadly however, the people who "really hate the U.S." do take it out on the American people. The other people complain but they are actually allies for the most part. (Lots of people have problems with the US government but its a stretch to say they hate the US.)

Not sure that Afganistan was the only justified war. I mean one would have to sit down and consider stuff. Anyway, look more carefully at what the US and France have done over the years following WWII and you will see the US is far from alone, even if the US as a super power has done more. (Not to mention counties like Russia and China, ..)

Steady As She Goes:
Excellent question! I couldn't begin to answer that question! I am big enough of a person to admit it!
Somehow.....Someone with true leadership and diplomacy MUST step up and stop this movement towards Fascism!

The thing that gives me comfort. That seems to always apply is yes history repeats itself! When evil rears it's ugly head .....good somehow always triumphs! The difficult part is sometimes it has taken a very long time! But I believe that it will again eventually!
Another difficulty is who can be trusted?
Many who are in the political arena today have the same ideology and philosophies even though they may belong to different political parties.
So who will take us in a true path to the Democracy our country was established to be?
I hope it happens soon!
Peace!

If you think WW2 was justified, you don't know enough about WW2.

We haven't had a war since our Revolution that wasn't either (1) unnecessary or (2) naked aggression by the United States. It's all the same circus act generation after generation, for the same audience of credulous buffoons. Kind of like religion.

who cares? i don't want them to like us. i want them to be very, very afraid of us. that way we don't get ****** with anymore.

used to be, if you were an American in another country, they knew not to mess with you because they were afraid. you can't do that now.
