Clownfish in general in an aquarium do not need an anemone to survive. In fact, in an aquarium setting, not providing a host anemone may be better for the clownfish, the aquarium, and the anemone. Adding an anemone or coral will increase aggression in both wild harvested and tank raised clownfish.
