The restaurant made out of the old church that is mentioned in the song is actually about 6 miles from where THE "Alice's Resturant" is now. Both are in Stockbridge, Massachusetts.

It was in the Berkshires of Massachusetts, West Stockbridge, if memory serves me. Alice was real, as was the restaurant. doctor_76 has most of it right. The restaurant was gone by the late 70's. I was up there looking for it around then. Found the railroad tracks though. Alice has chosen a different vocation.

I don't right know about Alice, but I know it was about Arlo Guthry's experience with avoiding conscription because of a conviction for littering (his father Woody died after the song was released).

alice's restraunt is located in la honda, ca which is basically a small town scattered amongst a redwood forest in northern california. the establishment still stands today, however alice is no longer involved, however the founder of the restraunt's name was in fact, alice. arlo guthrie was introduced to the restraunt due to the fact that it is a popular stop for bikers driving up the California coast. Hope this helped!

Yes, and there was an article about her in the Wall Street Journal about 3 weeks ago. I think she is an artist or activist or something now, a bit of a recluse, and doesn't care too much for questions about Alice's Restaurant-I forget why.
