If you have to ask yourself if it is hard or not you really don't want to play. I have seen so many people give up guitar because they cannot make it past the conditioning. You must first learn the bare basics such as how to read tabs, how to play chords and scales, and what notes are what. You must also build the callouses on your fingeres and many wannabe guitar players never make it past this phase. If you are willing to dedicate an hour or two a day to it, and are willing to say that you suck for now, but one day you will be good, then you can do it. It took me years to become a decent guitar player and there were times I wanted to quit but when it all comes togeather it is like nothing else out there.

Well I have been playing the guitar for just over 2 years and a half now. I no I'm no Hendrix BUT I love playing. Beginning the guitar will prove a little tough on your hand, both finger tips and muscles (cramp). However, just like everyone says, practise makes perfect. It will become much much more easier as time goes by, you just got to make sure you practise whenever you can. maybe 30-60 mins a day. Theres always easy songs you can learn while at a novice stage, then build up gradually to harder songs. :). rock on x

It's hard. I've been playing for thirty years and I still practice every day - that's the hard part. You have to fall in love with it and practice every day. Otherwise you wind up being one of those old guys with a guitar who almost knows a whole song.
It is worth it though, nothing feels as good as being able to "sit-in" anywhere, anytime.
Don't do it if you are not serious, you'll be wasting time.

PS buy a good guitar, 400.00-500.00 Yamaha will be easier to play than the 89.00 guitars they sell at Hastings.

PPS: Playing the guitar will NOT get you laid.

PPPS: Most of the folks who say it's easy, probably don't play well, or at all.

Easy to learn...difficult to master. There is alot that can be done with a guitar and there is more to be done with a guitar. Don't shy away from it because you think it's difficult, the more you play the easier it will become. Find a good teacher and then find time to practice, you'll be fine....besides you never know...you may be the next great guitar god.........
I've been playing for close to 20 years and can if the mood strikes me... shred like a motherf**ker. It takes time so be patient. You will not be able to play like that right out of the gate so don't expect to. Good luck..........

It's not that difficult if you don't expect over night results. You have to practice. I started off learning chords. That's the easiest and best way. After that, if you want, you can learn to play lead off of the chords you've already learned. Any instrument takes time, but with dedication, it's fun, and not very difficult. All the best!

well it mostly depends on the person but for me it was really easy.(and i dont suck, ok, im pretty good). the hardest part for me was stretching my fingers while playing chords. my fingers just wont go that far. plus when you start playing, pressing down on the strings really hurts your fingers. but thats about it. just read a book on guitars. it'll show you all the different chords and where to place your fingers.

It's going to depend on natural talent and pratice. I began playing at age 43 and do mainly rythm, my son began at 14 and very quickly picked up lead licks. No matter which you do it takes dedication and practice. Hell, if it were easy everyone would do it.
