It came on the plant :)
They're hitchhikers; they live on the plants and they take over your tank. You'll never get rido of them now, so I suggest that you just squish them whenever you see them. When you get fish, you'll find out they love to eat the squished snails.

These could be a number of different things. Hitchhikers come in to the tank in a number of ways, and not all are good.

One of which could be planaria, which are flatworms and members of the Platyhelminthes phylum.
Planaria are often found in aquariums with uneaten food. The planaria won't hurt the fish, but they are a symptom of too much gravel containing too much uneaten food, and that is not good for fish. Do you know if they came from a tank with excess fish? How about walmart?

Add Aquarium Salt to your aquarium up to a maximum of 1 Tablespoon for each 5 gallons of water in your aquarium. I seem to remember you have a so-called 29-30-gallon aquarium, which probably has about 25 gallons of water.

They could also be snails. Various types which are also harmless to your fish when kept in check.

When purchasing plants for any tank especially from tanks which have fish plants should be washed and quarantined. If you do not mind hitchhikers such as the snails, don't worry about quarantining them.

Snails usually come in on plants. They are very beneficial to an aquarium as long as you maintain the tank and do not overfeed, as this will allow them to overpopulate.
