My daughter was recently shown the movie " Equillibrium", a R-rated movie. No permission slip was sent home. Is this legal?
Also, the movie was shown so that a "moral" was learned. The moral was that God was a myth and should not be trusted. This was a Freshman English class. Is religion even permitted in a public school in this manner? Please help!!

Before you go flying into law - have you seen the movie?

I would disagree with an R movie being shown in school, but simply based on the rating.

The movie you are so bent on being about God has nothing to do with God - watch and learn, then talk to the school board about the appropriateness of showing R movies.....don't go in there looking silly saying it was a religious zealot movie, when it's not.

Some people are incredibly short sighted, I congratualte the English teacher for broadening the childrens minds and you should too. The film Equelibriam does have a very important POLITICAL moral message, nothing about God I feel you are very paranoid on the idea of religion being attacked and have become somewhat blind!

Equelibriam is a film about a future society in which all human society is repressed, as such we can all work in total unison, following logic over natural selfish urges, a perfect comunist state. As a result we advance greatly. But at what cost?

It is a fantastic weigh up of nature and reason, while we all dream of a perfect society it can not be at the cost of our own humanity, God gave us the gift of individuality which we should each treasure. And within that treasure we can move forward, not by rejecting it.

You should take the issue up with the teacher and the principal before suing.

I also find it highly unlikely that a teacher showed a movie in class to prove God was a myth and shouldn't be trusted.

And you should know this movie has nothing to do with God or religion. It might have something to do with government and politics, but absolutely nothing to do with god.

Here's a synopsis:
At the end of World War III, the world fell under the control of Father and the Tetragramaton: a government that outlaws all forms of art and emotion. Citizens are forced to take drugs that eliminate emotions. However, "Sense Offenders": citizens who resist the laws and operate underground are continually at war with the Tetragramaton. John Preston is a Cleric, an elite super-soldier who's mission is to hunt down and eliminate Sense Offenders with the help of a ruthless police force. One day Preston forgets his drug and begins to feel. Soon, he begins sympathizing with the Sense Offenders and begins to understand the beauty of feeling...A beauty that the government Preston spent his life serving would like to see destroyed.

relies upon on the action picture, I say ;) I advise, something like Borat... it incredibly is senseless stuff. yet conflict video clips are generally rated R, and that they are crammed with all forms of academic stuff. The Patriot is an exceedingly sturdy one, and it is going alongside with a actual guy or woman. (in spite of the undeniable fact that Hollywood bent the story slightly, of path.) despite if, it incredibly is totally bloody and violent, so it has an R score. The observed video clips (in spite of the undeniable fact that I hate them) concentration on psychology and the survival instinct. How far might a guy or woman pass to stay to tell the story? authentic, the actors and actresses are in no actual threat, yet could you think of somebody which could something dramatic if it meant surviving? additionally, what psychological annoying circumstances do Jigsaw's puzzles recent? Many contain issues sentimental to a guy or woman being mocked or destroyed, or doing something morally incorrect to flee dying. There are all forms of thrilling R video clips available that are useful and academic.
