Ok i am looking into buying a car, I am stuck between two choices, There is a 1995 Honda Civic with 159,000 miles on it for 2700 it seemed to run great and has new inspection and we would buy it privately. Or a 1997 For escort with 70,000 Miles for 1,300 that runs really good and it is from the same person that we bought or last car from, my hubby boss at work, so we know he is reliable, if anything goes wrong he fixs it for free for us, it also has new inspection. I really didnt want to spend as much as the honda is but i have heard these are some of the best cars you can buy. I am a young mother of two and looking for the cheepest car to maintain insure and that will last a while and have the least problems. But i am very bad with cars and wrecked alot already so saftey is an issue too. which do you think would be the better investmaent??

The Ford would seem to be the better investment based on the budget you have outlined. It's true that the 95 civic is indeed a really nice car but you have to remember that japanese parts are always more expensive than american car parts. Also there is a great difference in mileage between the two cars as well and since you have the advantage of free repairs on the ford it should be more budget friendly. The insurence on the ford should also be cheaper on the ford compared to the civic as the civic is considered to be a high risk car. This is just my two cents worth. The final decision is ultimately yours.

Hope this helps :)

The Honda is a far better car than the ford. And with the Honda you should be good for at least 10 more years @ those kind of Kms. Check for rust though. If it has rusty quarter pannels get them fixed properly and you should be good. Then you can sell your ford or trade it for a 24 of Laker Lager. Enjoy your new Honda.

get the escort for for 1,300 that sounds like a great deal if it runs as good as you say it does. That civic sounds like its on its last legs 159,000 is allot for any car I personally would not buy a car with that much mileage on it unless i knew every thing about it. Also 2700 sounds like allot of money for the year and mileage. That civic is only worth maybe 1,000 at best. The ford would be safer car. the civic is not as good in crashes because of how thin the metal is.

No doubt about it, if you want your money's worth get the honda civic. I have a 1990 honda civic with over 200,000 miles on it and it still runs great. I love my civic. Escorts have been known to go bad.

GO WITH THE CIVIC.

Go for the little Ford. The price of parts alone will shock you on the Honda. I spoke to a gentleman today who has purchased a 2001 Honda Accura brand new. He works in a credit union near my home. This credit union also sells automotive extended warranties. He admitted to me that his extended warranty had more than paid for itself $670.00 on the plus side. You see the warranty cost him $1,760. it's paid for itself. Add the two numbers and you get $2,430. in repairs on a 5year old Honda. This is on top of any factory warranty work. Dependable, I don't think so.

my first car was an escort 94 reg, pretty good really
pros for each..

escort
cheap parts, easy servicing, lower overall milage, good space for a family as well

civic
more expensive parts and less common, higher overall milage

id go for the escort. I was once thinking about buying a jap car once, but i do hear that the parts cost more.

I'd go with the Honda...Fords tend to run into transmission problems.
