You see, My husband and I have been trying to conceive for about 7 months- I know that it can take up to 1yr to conceive, but at the rate we are going, it doesnt look like were going to be pregnant by then. So, i was wondering what are some things that i need to ask my doctor about me not conceiving? Also, are there any kind of tests that he can run on me to see if im fertile, or if im able to have children? I need to know what to ask- What do i need to be aware of? Please give any advice.

My husband and I just went through that.

My OBS gave me a pap smear and he discussed general health and did bloods. All was fine.
My husband did a sperm sample and that was checked and fine, except there was something odd with some white blood cells and he took anti-biotics for a week.
Something must have worked because I would have fallen pregnant later that week! But it did take us nearly 9 months of trying.
We were also eating very well, excercising and cut back on alcohol. First thing on the list is to look after yourselves.
If I didn't conceive I was about to spend a day in hospital having a laparoscopy to check for blockages (thankfully I didn't have to do that in the end)
Good luck to you - remember these little souls pick us as parents and come when they are ready, not always when we are!

It took me a bit over a year to get pregnant with my first. I spoke with my GYN and the first prenatal tests were to test my hormone levels in my endocrine system. At the same time, I had my husband's sperm tested. It is best to get him tested so you don't have to go through possibly costly and painful testing yourself. Also, most OB's in the United States at least do not consider fertility testing until you have had 12 months of cycles and not getting pregnant.

I HIGHLY recommend the book: Taking Charge of Your Fertility...look it up on www.bn.com or www.amazon.com for easy delivery...or just go to your local bookstore...it is a very popular book which teaches you how to properly chart and anticipate your menstrual cycles and ovulation, inlcluding any factors that may be causing you to not get pregnant right now.

Best wishes in trying to conceive :)

p.s. check out fertilityfriend.com as well, but still, buy the book...it is well worth it :) It will help you when you see your doctor as well since you will be armed with information.

My husband and I went through the same thing. First my doc made us try for at least a year before any testing. Then, after a year, it was time to start testing. Doc told me we need to test the husband first, because most of the time, it is something with his sperm count. Sure enough, we found out he had a varicosil ( and I know I spelled that wrong). He had to have surgery, and within a month, I was pregnant. All you need to do is tell your doc that you have been trying to conceive for a year.

When it comes to fertility testing, the tests for men are much easier and less invasive so have him checked first. If you've been charting your basal body temperature take the charts in to show your doctor.
