I just want to go over there and live and work for a year or two. I heard americans can live for 6 months tax free. Anyone have any advice or can you enlighten me a little bit on the (legal/visa )aspects of moving to London?

This is the link you need for information regarding work permits etc. Sorry, but I have no idea as to whether or not Americans can work here tax free for 6 months, although people here have to be earning a certain amount before they start to pay tax so that may apply to yourself as well...

If you work in the UK you pay tax in the UK. Our taxes pay for all the services that you would benefit from - don't forget, if you need an ambulance here you don't have to prove you have the right insurance before they let you on!

It would also be advisable to have a job in place before you come over, as visa restrictions could handicap your job search if you do not; the regulations are not as stringent as the US Green Card system but they are being tightened up due to concerns that the system is being exploited with the opening of borders within the EU.

If youre looking for a tax free deal, dont got to the UK. Basically you have to get a work permit and they will tax you which is whole lot more than what it is in the US. If you want tax free, you basically have to work in one of the 'under' developed countries. Africa, parts of Europe, and parts of th e middle east. I worked in Kosovo tax free but I was with the UN and Kosovo is definately underdeveloped.
