Yes, something should be done. Corporate greed and unfair "free trade" has begun to destroy the average Americans standard of living. We must restrict the amount of imports from countries like India and China, were human rights issues are a major problem. Also, all countries involved in free trade action with the US must be forced to have the same employee rights, environmental restrictions as we do. Corporations must stop paying outrageous wages to CEO's and shareholders and reinvest a higher percentage of profits into modernization and R&D efforts.

In 1973 the US went completely off the gold standard. This was the death knell for the american working man. It brought on rapid inlation. Big Business could not exploit american workers, so this enabled them to move to other countries and exploit their workers. General Motors is the largest employer in Mexico and they don't even pay their workers American minimum wages. Swift, an American truck carrier, is the largest trucking company in Mexico. They pay their Mexican drivers 10 cents per mile, while in the US they pay their drives more than 3 times that much. We should go back to the gold standard, end the trade deficit and give tax breaks and credits to companies that stay in the US. The Government killed the American Dream for working Americans and we shouldn't stand for it.

I agree with you. The reason for this is that our own politicians, Democrat and Republican have caused it to happen.

Richard Nixon opened the door by beginning relations with Communist China. Eventually, we betrayed our ally, Taiwan, and recognized Red China as the legitimate government of China.

Than, our politicians gave China "Most Favored Nation" status (the lowest tariffs). So, American workers now have to compete with slave-labor products from China.

The next betrayal of American workers were the NAFTA and GATT Treaties. This removed control of foreign trade from the US Congress to international organizations created by the treaties.

Now, Bush, Jr. is working on the North American Union. It will function like the European Union, but will be composed of the US, Canada and Mexico. That means the ships will unload Chinese products in Mexico, and Mexican truck drivers will being them into the center of the US, thereby eliminating jobs for American Teamsters.

The key to changing this situation is the US Congress. Put pressure on the US Congress to withdraw from NAFTA and GATT. Stop the North American Union. Withdraw Most Favored Nation status from China. If they don't respond, CHANGE CONGRESS. Americans, your jobs and your economy are at stake.

True, but realize this: Corporate greed is not much different from children's greed, and parents' greed to escape "guilt" that will lead them to buy all these ridiculous "cool" things that feed into the big machine...
Why do buy into the American Dream?
WE are all greedy, and the higher-ups are just showing us our own reflection.
Stop buying extra crap. Start darning socks! Start reading instead of buying that big screen!
Oh, no, sorry, we just want to moan and groan.
And blame somebody else.

The first thing that would have to be done is stop electing liberals to office who hate big business and are driving them out of the country. Why would you manufacture your goods in a country where the cost of labor alone guarantees that you can not compete with foreign competitors? Why would you manufacture goods in a country were you have to negotiate with labor unions who will send your workers out on strike because they are even more greedy then your are portrayed to be? Why would you manufacture goods in a country where half the politicians and their constiuents try to portray you as the enemy of all mankind? Lastly why would you want to manufacture goods in a country where is someone has an accident, and accidents will happen, they could sue you and put you out of business?

Maybe if there was a cap on CEO's salary's & pensions,
that would help.
Honestly, I've heard of 600 million dollar pensions - couldn't
100 million be enough?
Greed - I agree, that is the problem.

Tough question. On one hand you can't put restrictions on free markets. I am sure if you owned a business you would try to lower your costs. But I can see your point. I think caring and buying American would help. As long as companies don't have an incentive to stay here, why should they?

Should we unite and do something about you using coupons or shopping around for a cheaper price on clothing or gas.
Do try to make your dollar go farther? Do you try to save as much as you can?......is that a form of greed
