I've compaired my oil level to that of my neighbors who keep theirs on all the time and seems like I'm using more. Is what I'm counter productive and causing me to burn more or is just my imagination?

Just set your thermostat to desired temperature and let your furnace do it's thing. Depending on how cold it is inside and out your run time will be different. If your turning it way down before you leave to work and not turning back on till you come "YES" you will use more cause your furnace is working harder to go from a stone cold to warm vs semi warm to warm, see what I'm trying to say, set it and leave it! good luck, 68 degrees is Ideal.

Is your nozzle the same gallons per hours as theirs? Condo: are you on a corner and are neighbors boxed in? (i.e. they could be getting adjacent heat.) Did you get a high efficiency oil burner?

Can someone be siphoning your oil? You have a new heater, but is your tank old? If it is old the float that indicates your oil level can begin sinking, giving a false impression of low oil. You can use a stick to be sure you know what's in the tank.

It's not thay easy. There are too many variables. Check for drafty spots around the windows and doors. Is your furnace filter ok ? Are the heating vents free and unobstructed ?Has a service man looked at it ?Many things could be wrong . Beware of dishonest service men.
