I'll tell you why. Because all the people that don't like rap, have maybe glimpsed at BET once. Most rap on BET is crap, it's just the black version of MTV. They don't show you real talent, just the stuff they think will sell. I don't say I don't like a form of music until I listen to what they claim is the best of that genre. Try Tupac, or some concious/political/nerdcore rap if your tired of drugs, sex and money filled lyrics. Shut up about rap unless you give it a chance. I don't like country music, but some songs have good lyrics and sounds too it. Remain open-minded.

What is the point of writing a question and then answering it yourself? The whole basis of Yahoo! Answers is to basically get people's opinions. You can't ask for opinions if you are already biased, which you are since you already have your opinion completely thought out.

Well, this doesn't look like a real question, more a rant, but I'll give it a shot anyway.

Most people I've met who don't like rap have one of three reasons.

1: You're right, they just didn't give it much of a chance and wrote it off after one crappy introduction, usually of the gangsta/money/sex/etc. variety.

2: They don't like music that is mostly chants and rhythm, they want more melody.

3: Rap music is very "heavy" compared to a lot of other music, and they want something lighter.

I don't think it helps that the crappy rap artists keep trying to defend themselves as some kind of artistic geniuses- it's hard to figure out what is _really_ the best of a genre when everyone claims they're it.

If you're still reading this far, I happen to like a lot of rap. The only ones that lose me are the really hate-filled ones and the ones that take a 30-second piece and replay it for five minutes (which I hate in any style, not just rap).

Well, I dig (or like) rap along with a host's of other music genre's and there are some rap songs that I have heard and thought they were just rediculous and or "corny" with no real point...maybe those are the songs they have listened to and based the whole sector off of that 1 song, plus some folks just skim through rap music and don't really listen to what's being said...some rapper's are really forcing people to think...while some people are too slow to catch on to what's being said. Not all rap songs are talking about money, sex, drugs, and killing. Although there are many other music types that do that exact thing and rap is the only one that is ever pushed to the forefront, hmmm...wonder why...and you must remember that some people may not be able to relate in any way with what's being said, so they just aren't feeling (or that into) it. But to each his own...

My issues with rap tend to be the overall lack of creativity. Rap artist do have good poetical abilities, but most just give new words to same meanings. Rap tunes can be broken down into a few categories: money, sex, reputation. The words change but the meanings are the same. While the background music at times can seem catchy, musical talent is not at display. The backgroud beats are created on computerized devices call drum machines. Now, just like most things there are exceptions to the rule. However, I will admit I do not have the paitence to find those exceptions. Therefore, I avoid the rap genre.

Conscious/political/nerdcore rap, like Visionaries, Heiroglyphics, Dead Prez, etc., are mostly underground and not heavily played on the airwaves. Mainstream rap is terrible, and I can't stand switching my radio to any rap station. Mainstream rap was awesome before '98... If the lyrics sucked, at least the beats were good. But there was so much more rap songs with good lyrics back in the day. It is so dissapointing to listen to new songs by Snoop or Ice Cube, who had great songs like "It was a Good Day" or... Well, Snoop never really had a lyrically good song, but great songs to smoke and get high to. Now, not only do the lyrics suck balls, but the beats are terrible too. Most music in the mainstream sucks, but at least rock music still sounds good.

I think it's stupid because most of the lyrics are. I'm typically an open minded person when it comes to rap but some rap songs have ruined the whole genre for me. Some songs are okay, I agree, but a lot of the themes give rap a bad stereotype.

well the thing for me is that i appreciate good rap music, when i say good rap music i mean lyrical music, meaningful music that really makes you think. Tupac is a legend as well as some of the other ol' school rappers, they are rappers that actually talk about issues in the world. these new people are not even in the same catagory, in my opinion its not even real rap, its like Crunk RAP, but you can also say the same about rock, some of it is good(that's Wat i hear) while others are really bad. but I'm all about rap, i enjoy listening to their good beats and some of their good lyrics.

Those who say those things are narrow-minded. I don't listen to rap but I don't think it's stupid.

Just remember that it's not only rap that people bash. Ever genre, band or artist will always have haters. It's not the music that's stupid, it's the haters who have nothing else to do in their lives other than say sh*t about things, that's stupid.

I don't like most rap. I'm a metal-head. But at the same time, I wouldn't really consider rap music to be stupid either. I just don't live and relate to what they are singing about. I don't feel a connection to rap.

Not all people think rap musik is stupid. I like the sound of rap songs before the lyrics start.
