Ron Guidry. If it wasn't for his arrival on the scene in the late 70's we wouldn't have those 2 Series wins. One helluva pitcher.

In my lifetime two have been grossly under rated. The first was Roger Maris. Forget the 61 home runs in 1961 for just a moment. Maris was an outstanding defensive right fielder with one of the greatest throwing arms of his generation. It was an absolute rifle arm with pin point accuracy. Originally the Yankees picked him up for his great defense and not so much for his bat. Believe it or not he was originally listed as a decent hitter with occasional power. Well me all know what happened after he joined the Yankees.

The second was Donny "Baseball" Mattingly. If not for his reoccurring back problems which shorten his career by at least 5 years, Mattingly would surely be in baseballs hall of fame by now. He was well on his way to a 3000 hit career and would have been an active player on the Yankees world championship teams of 1996, 1998, 1999, and 2000. As it is he still belongs in the hall of fame. As I've always said, if Kirby Puckett can be elected with his numbers than so should Don Mattingly. Mattingly was so much better.

to me the most under rated yankees have to be Scott Brosious, Chuck Knublock and Paul O'neil (although people in New York consider him to be a "great yankee" including me)

I agree with e-rod96.

Paul O'Neil was one helluva gamer with the Yankees. He was a tough-nosed player who was a great team leader and put up solid offensive numbers each and every year and played a great right field.

He'll never be in the Hall of Fame, but he was a great Yankee who never got the credit he deserved...

I don't know about all tiem, but for right now it's Andy Phillips. Nevermind the fact that he helped carry the team when it wasn't getting any real offense during Inter-League time. They needed a good right hand bat at 1st base and rather than call him up, they've gone out and bought someone.
