--Why is the firs amendment so important?
--Is this good for a 7th grader?
Imagine a society that did not allow you to say anything you want, practice what you believe, or even celebrate your own religious holidays. The first amendment to the constitution gives Americans these rights. The first amendment states, “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.” The first amendment is what makes America so individual from other countries.
-IT IS A PERSUASIVE ESSAY ON WHY THE 1ST AMENDMENT IS SO IMPORTANT. IT IS ONLY THE BEGINNING!

Very good. Better than some of the essays my wife's 10th grade students turn in!
A few little hints:
Don't repeat yourself so much. It's obvious you are talking about the first amendment, so you don't need to state "the first amendment in every sentence.
Be sure to mention examples of things that could not be done without the first amendment.
if you have any research, state laws that have been struck down as unconstitutional for violation of 1st amendment rights (flag burning is a good one here!)
Here's another. Even though the Ku Klux Klan is a racist and discriminatory institution, the First Amendment guarantees them the right to assemble and parade, even on days like Martin Luther King Day, etc. As much as I may disagree with the Klan's existence, the US Constitution gives them the right to exist, and express their view.
THE MOST IMPORTANT FACT: A truly great nation cannot remain great if it shuts out dissenting opinions. THAT is the true value of the first amendment. Now go and write! :)

Yeah, good beginning. Do any other countries let their citizens burn the flag of their country and not arrest them? How about buy property next to the President of the US and hold protests on the same street? How many countries can practice freedom of religion and live side by side, and for the most part not fear death for their beliefs? The first ammendment is one thing that lets Americans celebrate their cultures. We all have roots from different nations, and are free to celebrate them. Freedom of speech-I doubt people in other countries are allowed the variety of news we have, no matter how 'one sided' it may be. America is trully a 'melting pot' and each of us can add our own personalities to what makes us great. Just some ideas, hope it helps. good luck, 7th grader

That is great for a 7th grader, I think. The only thing I would change would be the the last sentence. I might go with something like "The First Amendment is what gives America its identity."
Good luck!

Society is only FREE if such rights are defended and seen as given to us by God Himself. That means, that because God gave us those rights, no human being can take them away.
Our society ceases to be free if we lose those rights, and then we're a dictatorship, run by the opinions of just a few. And that's very bad. Why? Because what makes them right? Nothing. Just force and the barrel of a gun. That's not the way humanity was created by God to be. We are created by God with these rights, and they make us human, so no man should take them away.
