Consumer Reports March 2007--Upright vacuums
#1 Kenmore (Sears) Progressive with Direct Drive $300. Also is CR Best Buy.
#2 Hoover Windtunnel 2 $250.
#16 Dyson DC14 Animal $570
#17 Dyson DC15 The Ball ALL FLOORS $500.
The most expensive upright vaccum is Aerus Lux Legacy $1,000. It is rated # 25.
They rated a total of 40 vacuums.

Kenmore (Sears) Progressive with Direct Drive 35922 cost about $300. Dyson is the 6th best according to consumer reports.

Rated number 1 and probably best is Dyson. Because of its unique design it can never lose suction.
But the thing is, that its expensive. Its like 500-600 dollars. But with a 5 year warranty. :D

I do not know about consumer reports but I have the best Vac. ever. It is a Dyson. It is the best built, most efficient and most powerful vacumn ever. The Dyson Vacs are very expensive but they are worth every penny. Mine is orange and purple...which is fun and funny. I have had Hoover, Eureka and Fantom Vacs. but by far the Dyson is the best. I had an expensive Fantom Vac. (no longer in business) which proceeded to fall apart in 6 months.

I'd have to check for the CU favorite. But I have two uprights, and I like them both. The Panasonic has a really good motor and really sucks the dirt. The Oreck does a nice job, is really light weight, and adjusts automatically for hardwood floors.

I would like to know this also. I have been through so many vacuum clearners! I need the best one for pet hairs. I have heard Dyson is good and that is what I am leaning towards.

OREL, i think that's the name, but it only weights 8 pounds and it the bags are kind of like a filter that doesn't let the viruses out when you vacuum and it comes with 1 year of those kind of filter bags, plus it sucks all the bad smell so your house smells fresh,
