Involvement with others makes us vulnerable to being hurt, bothered, and even interfered with. Allowing others into our lives means changes and risk. It is often easier for some people to keep a good defensive wall up and maintain a safe world, unbothered by outside influences.

To save themselves pain. If you're never part of anything, it can never be taken away from you.
And some people aren't wanted to be involved. Everyone would rather them just stay away or always have wanted them not to be around before so they just keep doing it.
Others don't feel wanted. They show up to things and everyone ignores them, so they figure they wouldn't be missed any way.
If you've always had people, friends and family, and you've never had a time in your life when no one was around, you really won't understand why they're like they are.
