Why is it that, on average, women tend to prefer (or like) taller guys?.

For me because I am big-boned and curvy, it makes me feel petite and protected where with a smaller guy, I feel huge.

I think that a lot of it has to do with our gender roles and expectations. Men were traditionally viewed as being protective and authoritative, overall better capable of handling a conflict for a woman. Many of these attitudes have been internalized by our female-gender culture.
There is also biological evidence: larger males (or males with other highly favored traits) in animal couplings are more likely to be picked to reproduce than smaller, less impressive males.
This concept has been tested in studies. One study showed that taller men are more likely to be chosen for promotions than a man who is shorter than average.
In sum, psychologically, historically, and biologically:
bigger = more fit and capable.

well the thing is and dont take this offensively girls want to feel like they are protected i mean seriously if u were a girl and u were 5"6, and the guy was 5"0 then would u feel like ur dating ur younger brpther than a women, i mean like me i am like 5"7-8 and its like im only 12 but seriously can u think of how tall i would be by high school and its like i want to feel like i have a guy who knows what he is doing ,and i dont want to feel like im dating my younger brother!!!! but honestly size doesnt matter that much if he has the looks and personality to back it up lol.

it fells kinda sexy when the man is taller then the women.. must of the women love there man to be taller.. am talking about 6.2 or more...but not all the time for me my bf is 6 feet and I am 5.1 and its good I like it

Well i like looking a guy in the eyes with out haveing to look down. Plus if a guy is tall he has one less excuse for staring at my Chest while were trying to talk. If hes shorter then me well its harder to keep his eyes on my face when is face is Chest level.

It feels strange and unnerving to date a guy who's shorter than me. I guess it feels nice to have a guy who's taller, because it feels like he can protect me. I feel somehow unfeminine when I'm taller than my guy.

personally i like a guy who is taller than me just because he makes me feel safe but personality plays a bigger part so if the guy is sweet sensitive and funny it doesnt matter what they look like
