They can tell by the density of the gas giants (their mass and their size) that they do have small rocky cores at the center. Around this is a solid hydrogen layer caused by the enormous pressure and the coldness of the gas giants at their distances from the sun.

Nope. As one goes down, the atmosphere just gets thicker and thicker, until it turns gradually into slush. Then the slush gets thicker and thicker until it gradually becomes liquid. The liquid gets thicker, until maybe it becomes solid -- or it might be liquid all the way to the core.

actully believe it or not jupitars surface is a rock core all the rest is gas.also satern clouds are made up of some meta morphic rock

how do scientists really know if they've never been there? I think instead of making "theories" and get their butts out in space and start doing real tests........also, the planest are REALLY hot so im not sure at this moment...
