Check your walls. Wasps can build nests in between your walls and they also can eat away your walls and join you in your house. You need to either hire an exterminator or start listening for the buzzing. When you do find it, mark the area and go after them at night when they aren't active. If you find them in a wall , take a hammer and tap out a hole and spray wasp spray in it. Have your windows open when you do this. Temporarily put duct tape over the hole and listen the next day to see if you got them all. All you'll need to do is patch the hole with drywall.....

I'm guessing you don't use the chimney. Do you feel a draft going up the chimney? If so, close the damper (it's up there in the chimney).

Feel around your house on a cold windy day, and see where you feel a draft. Seal those places with caulk or the canned insulating foam. Anywhere a draft can come in, so can wasps. You'll also find that by sealing these, your power bill will go down and your house will be warmer.

Also, check the weatherstripping on your exterior doors. This is often a culprit.

In old houses the often live in the attic and follow the window weight cavities where they can pop out in the rooms via the pulley opening.

1) Find out where they are getting in the attic and screen it off if you can.
2) Plug the pulley openings (probably by October you aren't opening the windows so much) with foam insulation. Just cut rectangles and leave enough out so you can pull them out.
